I joined the homopolar motor experiment with the levitation experiment … and this is the result. I think it is an original work, you have seen one like it on youtube?
The hardest part is to create a well balanced rotor combining neodymium magnets, iron pipes and battery.

I used polystyrene base with neodymium magnets 30x3mm inserted into the base.
For the rotor:
1) a new rechargeable battery
2) magnetic disk with a hole 15x5mm near the battery and close the screw,
3) 2-iron tubes of 15mm diameter
4) other magnets neodymium 20x2mm at the ends that make levitate the rotor
5) a screw

all magnets are grade n42
first of all advice to build the rotor with the pieces that found, constructed after the base by adapting it to the dimensions of the rotor. more the rotor is longer and more stable … but do not go overboard with the weight.

the polarity of the magnets near battery is very important. I try to outline the position.

For this experiment i have used Duracell Rechargeable battery

S-N battery N-S (With this configuration wheel on one side)
N-S battery S-N (With this configuration wheel on the other side)
S-N battery S-N (Do Not work)
N-S battery N-S (Do Not work)

the wire put the battery in short-circuit, so the current flows in the wire and generates an electromagnetic field around it. This electromagnetic field interacts with the magnetic field of the permanent magnets creating the motion. It is the operating principle of homopolar motor.
