Dorodango is an ancient Japanese meditative art that involves shaping and polishing a ball of mud until it becomes a perfect, shiny sphere. As soon as I learned about it, I fell in love with it. The magnetic test of the dorodango was done with the Death Magnet from supermagnete.com, which I thank for its support. Death Magnet https://sumag.net/death-magnet-x02 Here's my recipe for making a magnetic dorodango: 180g sifted fine clay 50g magnetite powder 30g water Mix, compact for about ten minutes in a plastic bag, and shape by hand into as spherical a shape as possible. Let it rest for 24 hours; the water will have partially evaporated, giving the ball a more solid and compact appearance. At this point, soften the outer layer by immersing the ball in water for 20-30 seconds. Now the spherical shape will be moldable using a small glass or cup. The longer you let this process continue, the smoother and more reflective the dorodango will become. I spent at least 40 minutes on it. The magnetism has always intrigued me. The strength of the magnets is scientifically explainable but there's something "magical" about its interaction with the world.
